Garden Route SPCA is number 1

-

On Tuesday, 23 October MySchoolMyVillageMyPlanet’s local representative, Mariana Theron, awarded the Garden Route SPCA the top prize for being their most successful beneficiary on the Garden Route.

It also received individual awards for the “Beneficiary Organiser of the year” and “Social Media Queen of the Year”.

The GR SPCA consists of two branches one in George and the other in Mossel Bay.

“I thank everyone who supports us and has made the GR SPCA a beneficiary on their MySchool card or app,” said management committee chair Wendy Jones.

“We feel honoured that so many people believe in us and our monumental struggle against animal cruelty and abuse,” she added. “Sadly the number of mishandled and deliberately injured animals is growing at an unprecedented rate.

“We are about to open our Education Centre at our George branch which will focus on what we aspire to - the education of all people about correct and humane animal care,” continued Jones.

“The proceeds we have received through the My School programme have helped enormously as we had to buy furnishings and audio-visual equipment to make the centre workable. The monthly money we receive from MySchool will help us to keep the centre stocked and allow our amazing Education Unit to continue its valuable work. The Unit consists of SPCA inspector Gerda Reynders and SPCA field officer Vanessa Lucas. The work they do in local and remote areas outside George and Mossel Bay is invaluable. They have carried our excellent name and introduced our society into areas that have no other animal welfare available. We are extremely proud of the work they do,” Jones said.

“I extend heartfelt thanks to the tireless GR SPCA volunteers who give their time to encourage and sign up new MySchool cardholders and app users with the GR SPCA as their beneficiary. Without them, we would not have achieved the top position. In conclusion, I thank the MySchool programme and Woolworths which helps us and so many other worthwhile causes.”
