Lifeguards at all 23 beaches

-

There will be lifeguards at all 23 beaches in the greater Mossel Bay area until 6 January and at the four Blue Flag beaches until 13 January 2019.

The coveted WESSA Blue Flag are officially flying high at some of the most idyllic Mossel Bay beaches during the official 2018/219 Blue Flag season until 13 January 2019 from 09:00 to 17:00 daily.

Where the Blue Flag is displayed, it means beach goers can expect lifeguards to be on duty throughout the season, as well as excellent water quality and facilities - accessibility for all - with the emphasis on safety, security and environmental education.

“However, it should be noted that all the beaches in the Mossel Bay Municipal area will still be operated according to Blue Flag standards and the same excellent services can be expected at all of them,” municipal spokesperson Colin Puren said.

Lifeguards have been on duty since 1 December on most of the 23 beaches in the Mossel Bay municipal area. Since 8 December there are lifeguards on all 23 beaches, with the highest number - 142 lifeguards - on duty on New Year’s Day.

The water quality of, among others, the Hartenbos River and beach, will be continually monitored to ensure Blue Flag status quality at all beaches in the Mossel Bay municipal area.

Four beaches were awarded Blue Flag status for the 2018/19 season from 14 December until 13 January at the national Blue Flag launch event that recently was hosted in Mossel Bay. Santos, De Bakke, Hartenbos and Little Brak River beaches were awarded Blue Flag status, while Glentana Beach obtained Blue Flag pilot status.
