Response to emergency incidents in Boggomsbaai and Vleesbaai take a considerable time due to the distance that emergency vehicles have to travel before attending to the emergency.

Arrangements were made with the ratepayers' associations of both the towns to act as a first response to minor fire incidents, while the fire services are en route, by providing them with firefighting equipment, including trailer skid units.

Mossel Bay Municipality has secured two new trailer skid units fitted with a 600 litre water tank, a two-stage pump and hose and nozzle to combat small house and veld fires.

A group of community members will soon receive fire prevention training from the Mossel Bay Fire and Disaster Management Services on the operation of the unit and the other firefighting equipment after delivery of these skids to the community has taken place.

The fire service will continue to perform its primary function and has taken this initiative to reduce the possible loss of lives, property and destruction of the environment.
