D’Almeida community concerned after learner ‘assaults’ principal

Members of the school community in D'Almeida have voiced their concern regarding an incident involving a high school learner at a local school.

On Friday, 11 January, it was rumoured that an altercatio­n took place between the acting head of the school and a Grade 10 learner.

The Western Cape Education Department confirmed that the incident had been reported.

"An alleged assault incident was reported by the school. A Grade 10 learner allegedly assaulted the acting principal.

The incident was reported to the WCED district and Safe Schools directorat­es and the police. The matter was also reported to the school governing body so that the relevant disciplina­ry procedures could be followed," said the WCED spokespers­on, Bronagh Hammond.

A charge of assault is being investigat­ed by the Da Gamaskop police.
