Mountain View housing
The contractor is on site and the first of the groundwork is being done for the new Mountain View housing development off Louis Fourie Road.
Primary beneficiaries will be current backyard dwellers and people of the middle class and people who neither qualify for free housing nor a bank loan to afford housing available on the free market.
This week Western Cape Human Settlements MEC Tertuis Simmers outlined the acceleration of service delivery within his department as a key priority. He said in a press release that prioritising people for Breaking New Ground housing, directing more resources for the upgrading of informal settlements and increasing affordable and gap housing will feature in the next step of delivery by the provincial Human Settlements Department.
This week, on the area renamed Mountain View, the contractor established a site and bulldozers were seen levelling the land, where soon the new housing development will take shape.
While 725 units in this development are intended for free housing, at least 278 opportunities will be created for the middle class who now live in the backyards or in rented rooms of others.
