Youth band rocks in Mossel Bay

-

The Bellville High School Symphonic Wind Band members were the star performers at a concert in the Curro School Hall, Heiderand on Saturday evening, 13 July.

It was organised by the respected Carpe Musicam!, so those in the audience knew they would be truly entertained.

The music played ranged from classical composers such as Mozart to arrangements of musical treasures from the Beatles and Abba.

For part of the concert, the band was joined by players of string instruments from Carpe Musicam! – a very appropriate addition – as well a sizeable contingent of wind players.

The Bellville Wind Band has been playing for 30 years. Like Carpe Musicam!, one of the driving forces is to encourage learners and other youngsters to learn to play together.

They have succeeded and applause from members of the audience was a tribute to their success.

Their conductor since 2007 has been Riaan Van Wyk, a flute and saxophone player since his school days. Unfortunately, the concert was not well supported by the community and it is hoped that if and when the Symphonic Wind Band revisits the area, more people will attend what would be a memorable experience.
