Mayoral committee restructured
Mossel Bay executive mayor Harry Levendal has restructured his mayoral committee.
This decision was announced on
Wednesday by acting mayor, Alderman Dirk Kotzé, at the monthly council meeting.
Mayor Levendal appointed the dynamic local businessman, Councillor Mark Furness (36), as the new portfolio chairman for Finance.
"The mayor regards Councillor Furness as a young, dynamic leader and entrepreneur with proven financial acumen, who can make a huge contribution to sound financial management and development.
Councillor Furness' business background in the town is well established and well known. He is currently finalising his dissertation, appropriately on the fourth industrial revolution, for an MBA qualification at the Nelson Mandela University.
"He has three years' experience as a member of the municipal Financial Review Committee (MPAC) and also serves as treasurer of the local DA branch within party structures," said Alderman Kotzé.
Councillor Furness and his family have an excellent track record in business and community involvement, testament to their commitment to Mossel Bay and its wellbeing. His grandfather, Edgar Furness, was Mossel Bay mayor during the early 1950s.
Alderman Kotzé and the DA caucus congratulated Councillor Furness on his new position and thanked the outgoing chair, Alderlady Marie de Klerk, for the work she did.
