News from council
At the monthly council meeting on Wednesday, 30 October, the Mossel Bay Town Council approved the following items on the agenda:
New, exciting beach event in December
Council unanimously approved an application for the Legend Runner Beach Series in Mossel Bay from 23 December to 26 December along the beaches of Santos, Hartenbos, and Great Brak River.
This is a first of its kind event for Mossel Bay and one of the largest mass start obstacle races in Africa.
The municipal manager, Adv Thys Giliomee, was granted delegated powers to make arrangements for the event in terms of the relevant municipal by-laws. Following the event, a full report will be submitted to council by the director of community services.
Air Quality Management Plan approved
Council noted the report on the approval of the Reviewed Mossel Bay Municipality Air Quality Management Plan and approved the revised plan. Council also agreed that the approved plan be adopted into the Integrated Development Plan (IDP).
Mossel Bay Municipality must renew its Air Quality Management Plan every five years. The existing plan was approved by council in 2013 and has just been renewed. Various air quality management plans have been compiled and officially handed over to the authorities and the project has been completed.
Municipal offices close early
Council approved the closure of the municipal offices at 13:00 on Friday, 29 November, to allow municipal employees to enjoy their annual year-end function.
Due to the cost containment regulations, council will not contribute any funds to the year-end function.
Small business incubator programme agreement
Council agreed to partner with the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) in support of the Small Business Incubator Programme.
SEDA and the municipality have jointly been working in support of small, medium and macro enterprises (SMMEs) in the greater Mossel Bay area.
To further this collaboration, it was approved that the incubator programme be embarked upon to further promote and support small business growth. Therefore, a service level agreement needs to be entered into to formalise the partnership. The municipal manager was granted delegated powers to finalise the agreement on behalf of council.
