Mossel Bay to host Daytona Rally next year
At the monthly council meeting on Wednesday, 30 October, council approved support for the hosting of the Daytona 2020 Rally in Mossel Bay.
Racing car enthusiasts can diarise 29 April next year for this major event that will see several high-end supercars in action in and around Mossel Bay.
The Daytona Rally will create ample opportunity for residents and visitors to admire the cars closely and see them in action on the course that will be relatively safe. The starting point will be at the Santos/De Bakke parking area in George Road and the course will end at the intersection of Church and Vincent roads. Several safe zones will be provided where the public will be able to admire the sport.
As this is an important and major event with impact on Mossel Bay as a whole, the council asked that a public participation process be followed and that feedback be submitted in due course for final consideration.
Hosting the Daytona will offer a major economic boost for the local economy, with both social media marketing spin-off and post-event media coverage. Motorsport is growing in popularity and interest in the supercars is high.
An event committee will oversee the necessary safety controls and councillors were given the assurance that safety would be a priority. Councillors voted unanimously that the municipal manager be given delegated powers to make the event possible in terms of the applicable legislation.
The starting point will be at the Santos/De Bakke parking area in George Road.
