Stabbings: 13 in court
Thirteen youths from Mossel Bay were granted R1 000 bail each during their bail application in the Mossel Bay Regional Court.
They are appearing on charges of attempted murder following crime at Indwe Secondary School. The charges relate to two separate incidents in August this year in which three learners were stabbed.
On Thursday morning, 22 August the KwaNonqaba Police responded in full force to yet another fight, seemingly a retaliation for an off-premises incident on Wednesday, 21 August, when a 19-yearold learner of the school was stabbed in the back by another 19-year-old learner.
After the perpetrator was arrested several learners used a luxury vehicle to cart a bag full of weapons to the school.
Police suspect that the learners had cellphone communication with others, and were trying to arrange for back-up once the planned fight ensued.
A group of approximately eight learners waited for others who were busy writing a test to finish before the fight broke out and the stabbings occurred in the presence of teachers.
When a female teacher tried to intervene she was assaulted by the learners and had a school desk thrown at her. A Grade 9 and a Grade 10 learner were stabbed and injured. The 13 suspects were kept in custody until their bail application, after which they were released into the care of their parents.
They will appear in court again on 7 December.
