Experienced three-vet team at Vitalvet Animal Hospital

-

Vitalvet Animal Hospital, which opened its doors in George on 1 July this year, is a joint venture of Dr Awie de Villiers (founder and owner of Vitalvet) and Dr Susi Kok (founder and former owner of Dana Bay Vets).

Vitalvet is well known for its wide variety of diets, animal products, vaccinations, dental procedures and sterilisations, but the need for a facility where all the health requirements of the animals could be met, was much greater.

The hospital is manned by an experienced three-vet team. Heading the clinical department is Dr Kok. She qualified in 2000 and spent the first seven years in England, after which she returned to South Africa with her family, and she has been working here ever since.

She loves all aspects of veterinary practice, from meeting the pet owners to loving and playing with their new puppies or caring and treating the older, sick or injured animals. She enjoys the challenges of complex medical cases starting at a thorough clinical examination to walking down the diagnostic path to reach a diagnosis - all to help fill in the puzzle pieces that will allow her to treat the patient.

She also enjoys surgery - both soft tissue and orthopaedic - which are such diverse and fulfilling fields of the veterinary profession.

Dr Awie de Villiers also spent the early years of his career in the UK and returned with his family in 2007. Vitalvet was founded in 2009 and has grown into two successful outlets in George and Mossel Bay.

Dr De Villiers enjoys the managerial challenges of a new hospital alongside a highly efficient administrative team. Over the years Dr De Villiers has built long and lasting working relations with multiple charities operating in our area. He is passionate about primary veterinary health care and all it entails.

Also at the hospital, vet Dr Emelia Crause qualified in 2011 and has been living in George for the last two years. She has a special interest in dermatology and feline medicine and loves exploring the outdoors with Newton, her Australian cattle dog.

Services at the hospital include routine vaccinations, sterilisations and dental treatments and more complicated services including ultrasonography, radiology, orthopaedic and general surgery and in-house laboratory testing combined with a unique shopping experience for your dog and cat.

The hospital is equipped with two consulting rooms, a modern operating theatre and the latest in digital and ultrasonographic veterinary technology with a state-of-the-art dental unit (the IM3).

The Vitalvet retail store in Mossel Bay still offers sterilisations and vaccinations in addition to a unique and extensive variety of pet-related retail products. Vitalvet Animal Hospital is at 6 Knysna Road, George East.
