Acrobats excel
Students of the Rhythmical Seeds Mossel Bay dance school and acrobatic sport club have excelled in trials and competitions.
On 29 April, at the Eden district trials in George, the junior acrobats were required to obtain a score of 6.5 out of 8.00 to qualify for the Regional Western Cape Trials.
Mené Benade and Nianke Fourie competed in the Pre-Level 1, eight years and under section.
Ariella Panter competed in the Level 2, eight years and under section. Chené Beeslaar competed in the Level 2, 11 years and over section. Shira Kruger competed in the Level 4, 10 years and under section. Abigail Reyneke, Gracey Johnson and Miecke Nel competed in the Level 4, 11 years and over section.
Even though all the junior students needed a qualifying score to proceed to the Regional Western Cape Trials, it was decided beforehand that due to the tender age of Mené, Nianke and Ariella, these students should only compete at district level this year to give them a gradual introduction to the pressure of practising a professional sport.
Chené Beeslaar, Shira Kruger, Abigail Reyneke, Gracey Johnson and Miecke Nel qualified to represent the Eden Districts at the Regional Western Cape Trials. Chené Beeslaar received the award for the highest score of the competition in Level 1 and 2 with a score of 7.525 out of 8.00 and Abigail Reyneke received an award for the highest score of the competition in Level 3 and 4 with a score of 7.475 out of 8.00.
The senior acrobats are required to obtain a score of 8.00 out of 9.80 to qualify to compete at the Regional Western Cape Trials.
Amé Loubser competed in Level 8 of the sport in the age category 13 and under 16. From level 8 the participants fall within the high performance athletes. Amé qualified to represent the Eden district at the Regional Western Cape Trials.
The following students competed in the Regional Western Cape Trials on 1 May in
Swellendam: Chené Beeslaar (Level 2), Shira Kruger (Level 4), Abigail Reyneke (Level 4), Gracey Johnson (Level 4), Miecke Nel (Level 4) and Amé Loubser (Level 8).
All of them qualified for the Western Cape team.
The junior acrobats will compete and represent the Western Cape team in the interprovincial competition during June. High performance athlete Amé Loubser qualified to compete and represent the Western Cape in the national championships in Gauteng on 2 and 3 July.
Rhythmical Seeds Mossel Bay dance school and acrobatic sport club is owned by Alida Gerber-Lategan, a seven-time national champion in the sport and the head coach of the club.
Acrobatic sport is fairly new in the Western Cape, therefore most of the entrants were first time competitors in the sport. They performed well and exceeded expectations. For more information, contact Alida (072 461 5015) or see www. rhythmicalseedsmosselbay.com.
