Fire victims assisted
The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) in Mossel Bay has assisted members of the Wolwedans community, near Great Brak, who lost their homes and possessions in a fire last week.
“The strength, beauty and resilience of the human spirit makes me weep,” ACDP Mossel Bay councillor Jeanette Gouws said.
“Mere days after losing every material thing they own, residents of the informal Zone 14 settlement in Wolwedans bravely began cleaning up and rebuilding.
“Due to the extremely generous donations of the ACDP members in Ward 5, Groot Brak and the community worker, ACDP leader Elsabe Malan, the ACDP was able to take through clothing, blankets, bedding, kitchen utensils and shoes. These donations were received by Ward 14 committee members Schumanine Blokland and Nolene Losper on behalf of the committee.”
Gouws expressed her thanks for the hard work, commitment and love for those who are in desperate need of help.
She also expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the Mossel Bay community at large, who rallied together and donated generously towards the relief effort.
‘Shock and dismay’
“We were on the scene on Monday [25 July] and experienced the shock and dismay as people returned home from work to find their homes in ashes.
“Many are still in shock and the ACDP volunteers were able to pray for those affected. May Father God restore.”
The ACDP thanks two of its members who made two huge pots of absolutely delicious soup.
Gouws said: “On Thursday evening, 28 July, victims of the Wolwedans fire were still unable to cook for themselves and their families.
“We took soup to those staying at the community centre and then relocated to the site of the fire, where we served soup to those who lost their homes and other hungry residents, many of them children; we served 150 cups of soup. We are blessed to be a blessing.
“Much love to our sponsors, cooks and helpers. And much love to the residents of Wolwedans. God sees you. He is El-Roi.”
