Orchestra, choir performances

-

Since 2015 the Carpe Musicam! Orchestra and Choir have been giving an average 12 performances per year in the Garden Route area.

Their music is fresh, exciting and always enjoyable. In keeping with their homemade term “Unsymphony” Orchestra, their repertoire is made up mostly of popular 20th Century music.

The presentation is light-hearted and the atmosphere is deliciously informal. Clapping between movements is not frowned upon, nor is standing up and cheering between items. All in all, a Carpe Musicam! concert has been described as a “feast for the soul” and is always a lot of fun.

But, like the proverbial iceberg, there is more to Carpe Musicam! than meets the eye. Bubbling away under the surface are a collection of projects aimed at increasing the appreciation and performance of music in general, and light orchestral and choral music in particular. Emphasis here is very much upon the youth of the Garden Route. Under the Carpe Musicam! banner are “Kidz and Tots” for two to six yearolds and “Roots4Rhythm” which specialises in teaching young people with special needs.

These groups will be getting their chance to perform in public at Carpe Musicam!’s December concerts, where they will be accompanied by the newly-formed Carpe Musicam! Youth Orchestra. This new group caters for learners and is a wonderful place for aspiring musicians to gain experience in group playing, where discipline, team effort and a host of other life skills are also learned.

Carpe Musicam!’s next concerts will be on 16 September (19:00) in the Glenwood House School Auditorium in George, 18 September (15:30) in the NGK/DRC Hall, Fichat Street in Knysna and 25 September (15:30) at the beautiful Laminin Agora Celebration Venue near Hartenbos.

The orchestra and choir will be entertaining you with a concert entitled Potpourri so expect a bit of all sorts of music. Refreshments will be on sale an hour prior to the concerts. Tickets are available at www.carpemusicam.co.za or for cash at the door.
