State of the art cath lab at Life Bay View Hospital

-

Life Bay View Private Hospital has enhanced the cardiac care offered at the hospital with a brand-new, state of the art cardiac catheterisation laboratory.

The facility, an investment of R23 million by Life Healthcare, is a specialised area where minimally invasive tests and advanced cardiac procedures to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease, are performed by cardiologists.

The laboratory boasts the newest technology and allows for increased image quality of the angiogram, which enables even more accurate placing of devices such as stents; potentially shorter procedure times for patients; enhanced holistic infection control; and the ability to accommodate heavier patients - up to 280kg in weight.

The new cath lab increases the visualisation of arteries, vessels and devices to achieve better patient and clinical outcomes.

“We are proud to have enhanced our care with this new technology,” says Nevil Vlok, hospital manager. “The new facility means that the community of Mossel Bay and surrounds will continue to receive worldclass cardiac care on its doorstep.” Patients experiencing symptoms of a cardiac event should visit their nearest emergency unit immediately for treatment or consult their GP.

They may then be referred to any one of the three cardiologists at Life Bay View Private Hospital - Dr Rudolf du Toit, Dr HW Snyman or Dr

Karim Hassan.
