A Tsogo Sun Moves for Life chess tournament for primary school learners was held at the Garden Route Casino on Saturday, 10 September.

The annual tournament was well attended. It is always a boost for learners from different schools to compete against one another.

Results:

U9 Girls: Gold - Suré Labuschagn­e (Hartenbos Primary), silver - Mia Burger (Curro), bronze - Zoë Burger (Curro).

U9 Boys: Gold and overall winner Emzeo Leshawa (Diaz), silver - Eldin-Lee Fran (Diaz), bronze - Arlo Scholtz (Curro).

U11 Girls: Gold - Perslin Farmer (Diaz), silver - Raynique Petersen (Diaz), bronze Hailey Scholtz (Diaz).

U11 Boys: Gold and overall winner Navin-Leigh Cupido (Ridgeview), silver Emile Olckers (Garden Route Primary), bronze Wybrandt Hurter (Curro).

U13 Girls: All three winners from Diaz Primary: Gold - Mekaylin Robertson, silver - Zee-Lyne Jacobs, bronze Yshah le Kay.

U13 Boys: Gold and overall winner Raynier Claassen (Diaz), silver Emerique Harris (Diaz), bronze Migael Claassen (Hartenbos Primary).

Overall winner of the tournament: Raynier Claassen (Diaz).

Special thanks go to George Lawerlot, the chess coach for Diaz, St Blaize and Ridgeview primary schools. He has been involved in coaching for nine years and is himself a champion in his division.
