Support this young talent
An exceptionally talented local dancer and actor has caught the eye of global talent scouts and he is planning an international career.
The videos of Henru Holloway (16) dancing and acting speak for themselves.
Modest Henru, who trains at Steps Dance Academy in Hartenbos, says: "I am an aspiring dancer and actor who has been given the opportunity to go to New York City in 2023 to attend IMTA, one of the largest performing arts platforms in the world. I'll be attending workshops and performing in the hope of attracting casting agents from major streaming platforms, such as Netflix, or performing arts platforms, such as Broadway."
Henru, who is a Point High School learner, participated in the 12th annual IATS (International Arts Talent Showcase) on 1 October, performing dance and acting pieces in front of international agents based in America. IATS is for the whole African continent. After the showcase he received a callback to attend IMTA in New York in June next year.
Henru says: "I was also accepted at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA), one of America's leading performing arts schools, to attend its High School Summer Programme. In 12 years, I am one of only two individuals from Africa to have received the honour of being invited to attend this programme. I will be training for two weeks with industry professionals in dance theatre each day from 07:00 to 21:30.
"After the two weeks we will present a concert and be able to audition for full afterschool scholarships at AMDA."
'You need to move'
Henru says: ''When God gives you an opportunity, you need to move," and he quotes the scripture, "Faith without works is dead." (James 2:17)
For this reason, he is trying his best to honour the recognition bestowed on him and make use of the opportunities offered, but he will need financial support.
His family is selling pet food to raise funds for Henru's trip to IATS. To support him, call 084 8400 203 or email picworx@gmail. com.

Steps Dance Academy owner and teacher Melody Alers says: "Henru joined the academy when he was 11 years old. He started with tap and was simply a natural dancer and performer.
"Within his first year we entered him for competitions, exams and performances, and he has been highly successful. Henru works hard, he is extremely loyal and dedicated, and always gives 110%. "This year he added choreography to his list of skills. I see a bright future in the performing arts for him. We are so proud of him."
