Walter’s love and kindness immeasurable
Walter Robertson, born on 9 August 1956, unexpectedly bid farewell on 17 December 2023, leaving behind a legacy as one of Mossel Bay's genuine legends.
Born and bred in Little Brak River, Walter's life was a blend of simplicity, strength and immeasurable kindness.
Little Brak River was more than just a home for Walter; it was the canvas upon which he painted a life of purpose. Though he briefly ventured beyond for high school and military service, his heart always belonged to the fields he tilled and the sea he cherished.
Walter was not just a farmer; he was a cultivator of community, a fisherman with a heart as vast as the ocean, and a dad who found joy in sharing the waves with his daughter, and proudly boasting about his granddaughter. His life was a story told, not in grand gestures but in the genuine connections he formed.
Describing Walter is an attempt to capture the essence of a man who went beyond the titles of father, mentor and friend. He was the embodiment of hospitality, making everyone feel seen and heard. His farming successes were not just about the crops he grew but a reflection of his determination and passion for everything he embraced.
Walter's love knew no bounds, extending to his family and friends, leaving an enduring mark on the hearts fortunate enough to know him. As we say our goodbyes, let us remember Walter not only for his achievements but for the warmth, laughter and friendship he shared.
May his spirit continue to inspire us to approach life with the same grace, kindness and love that defined his remarkable journey.
He is now happily reunited with his wife Libby, whom he lost at the end of 2020.
Surviving him are myself - his daughter Megan, his son Thomas and his granddaughter Dané.
