Mossel Bay boosted at tourism expo in Cape Town
World Travel Market (WTM) Africa, the continent’s seminal travel and tourism expo, was held in Cape Town and saw operators and other tourism players converge on the mother city’s foremost convention centre, the CTICC, from 10 to 12 April.
Back home to tell the happy tale was Mossel Bay Tourism board director Andrea Rowlands Bradfield, who shared some of the 20-strong Garden Route/ Little Karoo (GR/KK) team’s memorable experiences during the well-attended expo.
“Many expo goers had never been to Mossel Bay as international tour operators and were keen to find out more. The first point we emphasised was our town’s position as Gateway to the Garden Route, while underlining some of our activities and adventure options – be they horseback safaris or marine excursions. I like to describe this as ‘Africa for beginners’ with unbelievable value for money to boot,” says Andrea.
In the spotlight
Garden Route activities were in the spotlight, indeed, with team members representing various towns and historic establishments – especially for tourists in search of unique and Earth-conscious experiences.
“It was a fabulous experience to work in harmony with other Garden Route products at the expo.
“I think we impressed visitors with the depth of our knowledge on all the area has to offer,” she says, adding that star staffers Dulin and Cheslin represented Mossel Bay Tourism with aplomb.
Cruise liners
A big cause for bragging rights was that Mossel Bay is now a preferred stop for international cruise liners, and this was confirmed by several representatives from international ground handlers.
Andrea thanks municipal Planning and Integrated Services director Carel Venter and other Mossel Bay Tourism directors for their presence and support at WTM, as well as corporatetourism promoter of Tours for SA fame, Mario Febbraio.
