R183 million hospital expansion project

-

Life Healthcare is investing a further R183 million in an expansion and upgrade project at Life Bay View Private Hospital in Mossel Bay.

This investment comes after the hospital's successful upgrade of its cardiac catheterisation laboratory in 2021, which cost R23 million and the development of consulting rooms with a parking deck, costing R17 million.

The current expansion will see the addition of a new wing with additional beds and new parking area.

The expansion, overlooking Alhof Drive, called the East Wing, will increase the number of hospital beds from 147 to 174. The existing intensive care/ high care unit will receive an additional eight beds. The medical ward will relocate to the new wing.

A brand new ward is included in the expansion, as well as new management offices and two levels of additional parking.

Life Bay View Private Hospital is a multi-disciplinary hospital with 43 resident specialists and it is proud to provide stateof-the art services, including cardiology and cardio-thoracic care and neurosurgery to the community of Mossel Bay and surrounds. The new and expanded units will ensure that patient-centred care is delivered at world class standard to the expanding community.

The building has been designed to include space for an additional ward in future, which will be subject to approval for additional beds from the Department of Health.

The target completion date of the expansion project is November 2025.

As part of the project, the management offices have been temporarily relocated to 12 Ryk Tulbach Street for the duration of the construction. The same office telephone numbers are in use.

With any project of this size, some disturbance can be expected while the builders are on site, however, patient safety and care remains Life Bay View's priority.

“Thank you to the community of Mossel Bay and surrounds for their ongoing support and for allowing us to continue to make life better with this exciting new development,” says Nevil Vlok, the hospital manager.
