Scava donates 116 art books to George regional libraries
The Southern Cape Association of Visual Artists (Scava) has generously donated 116 art books to the George regional libraries, offering a significant resource to the local community and surrounding districts.
The donation, which took place on Thursday, 26 April, was made possible by a gift to Scava from the late artist Spies Venter of Great Brak River.
Scava, an organisation dedicated to promoting the visual arts throughout the Southern Cape, received the collection from the Venter estate. "After careful consideration, Scava decided that these books would best serve the wider community by donating them to the George regional libraries, where they would be accessible to a broader audience. We are honoured that these books can be shared throughout our region,” said Scava chairperson René Scribante.
Scava secretary Liezel du Toit said, "Spies Venter's legacy lives on through this generous donation and we believe that the knowledge and inspiration contained in these books will benefit artists, students, and art enthusiasts across the region."
Marlene Swanepoel, George regional librarian, and Elmine Vorster, reference librarian, were thrilled to have received the collection.
Scava operates as a nonprofit organisation, run by artists for artists, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment in the visual arts in the Southern Cape. As an association, it strives to keep its members informed about exhibition opportunities in the region.
