Complaint about TNPA public toilets
The men's public toilets, near the Dockside and Mozambik restaurants at the old yacht club building at the harbour, have been closed since September 2023 "to undergo renovations".
This is according to Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), responsible for the maintenance of the public amenities.
‘As per the project timelines, the planned opening will be August 2024.’
Mossel Bay Advertiser received a complaint from a member of the public, Jody Klue, regarding the state of both the men's and women's toilets there. Customers of restaurants in the area use these facilities.
A team from TNPA visited the site on Monday, 6 May, something Klue said would not have happened had he not complained to the TNPA.
In its response to the Advertiser's enquiry, TNPA said "the site visit of 6 May was conducted by the Port of Mossel Bay’s project team as part of regular project site visits scheduled at TNPA premises".
It noted: "TNPA acknowledges that a complaint was received and will engage the respective port tenants to provide project status updates on the matter raised."
It said since the closure in September, alternative and additional mobile toilet facilities had been provided at the recreational parking area.
"The male facilities were closed to
conduct the necessary renovations and improvements required. As per the project timelines, the planned opening will be August 2024."
The women's facilities are also in need of some renovations. TNPA said they would also be renovated and upgraded during this project period.
"Communication with our TNPA tenants is ongoing and they will be updated as to when the ladies’ facilities will be closed and notified concerning any project updates."
