Lending each other A HELPING HAND

Members of Reapele Burial Society are there for each other in tough times

Move! - - STOKVEL - By Vincent Phahlane

WHY DID YOU FORM THE CLUB?

The stokvel was formed to assist one another in good and bad times. However, after we realised that most families in our community could not afford to bury their loved ones, we decided to operate as a burial society.

The stokvel is mainly aimed at saving money in order for the members to bury their loved ones with dignity.

HOW DOES THE GROUP OPERATE?

We operate as both a savings and burial stokvel. We meet once a month and address issues that we face in the stokvel.

We also discuss new ways to improve our stokvel, each member’s life and the community. On the day we meet, each member contributes towards food and refreshments.

WHAT ARE YOUR CHALLENGES?

Our biggest challenge is unemployment.

Some members struggle to find jobs and can’t afford to pay their monthly contributions. However, we have decided to let them continue with the stokvel.

We have, however, approached various entities in a bid to assist the members and their families financially.

WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS?

We want to grow the stokvel so that members can be able to buy their own houses and cars.

We have done so much and we are proud of our achievements thus far. But we are also planning to make 2019 the year of our achievements by aiming high and working together as a stokvel so that every member can benefit.
