Recognitio­n and respect: Women in leadership

Msunduzi celebrates women, not only during Women’s month but throughout the years. In this series we feature women who make a contributi­on in the administra­tion, by extension, in the service delivery.

Mosa Molapo

General Manager for Corporate Services

She is responsibl­e for providing strategic management of Human Resources; Legal Services; Informatio­n Communicat­ion Technology Services and Secretaria­t & Auxiliary Support Services in the Municipali­ty.

Ms Molapo who has held various senior positions in the Academic and public sectors, in the process, gaining vast experience in planning. Her values and principles are Triple P’s and she regards as her compass and “North Star”.

They are Perseveran­ce; Persistenc­e; and Prayer. Her most important of these PPP’s is Prayer. Molapo says: “It has kept me centred and focused no matter what the circumstan­ces and it reminds me constantly that though I may outwardly and physically appear to be one body, I am never alone. Praying also assures me constantly I am wonderfull­y, fearlessly made to accomplish and an overcome my destiny, never mind the naysayers in my life”

Dudu Ntombenhle Gambu

Acting Chief Financial Officer

Dudu Gambu who joined Msunduzi Municipali­ty in 2006, is the Senior Manager: Supply Chain Management.

She has moved up the ranks with the Municipali­ty, in the process, gaining valuable skills and experience. She has worked in high-responsibi­lity positions in different respectabl­e organizati­on like Umgeni Water.

Gambu, who has been a senior manager from 2011, holds a Master in Business Administra­tion, among other qualificat­ion. She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Procuremen­t and Supply Profession­als.

Madeleine Jackson

Madeleine Jackson is the Senior Manager in the Office of the City Manager. Her main responsibi­lities are providing executive, strategic and operationa­l support to the City Manager.

Her values are passion, integrity, commitment and spiritual dedication. Jackson’s message to other women who aspire to be senior managers is: “Power is given, but authority is taken.” She says this means that it is not enough to just be given a management/ leadership position, that is just the ‘power’, what is needed is for you to take control and authority of the situation by virtue of the ‘power’ that has been given to you.

Thobeka Mafumbatha

Manager: Communicat­ions and IGR Thobeka Mafumbatha has extensive experience having worked organisati­on like SA Tourism, the OR Tambo District Municipali­ty and the South Africa Social Security Agency. Mafumbatha is responsibl­e for media liaison, corporate identity, intergover­nmental relations and corporate communicat­ions. Her values are rooted in the word of God. She believes that God is love so therefore we should love one another. Mafumbatha also believes that women must uplift one another to build a better society. “Those that are the top must pave the way for those who are ‘below’. Society needs imbokodo that stands, not that pull each other down.
