Community helps clean up school
YOUTH Day in Khula Village near St Lucia was celebrated by more than 150 community members by helping to clean up Silethukhukanya High School.
The event was coordinated by Proportional Representation councillors Annacletah Mabika and Xolani Mkhwanazi.
School Governing Body members Ray Langa and Mr Mthembu joined in the clean-up, along with the school’s Principal, Simon Madela.
The clean-up yielded almost 700 lollipop sticks and many refuse bags of rubbish, which was followed by a talk to raise awareness about child abuse.
Local companies Advantage Tours, Elephant Coast Guest House, EuroZulu Safaris, St Lucia Safaris, Ants and Mustard, Heritage Tours, Shoreline, and Zulu Sun Safaris donated food and drinks which were enjoyed afterwards.
‘We are grateful to have such caring people in our area, and we wish every parent would encourage the learners to help keep their school clean on a daily basis,’ said Mabika.
