Record year for De Rustica
DE RUST - De Rustica Olive Estates was given four gold and two silver awards at the 2021 SA Olive Awards.
The SA Olive Awards is one of the premier events on the local olive industry’s calendar. It signifies and acknowledges the culmination of hard work and the strive for excellence within the industry.
The gold awards were given to the Rustica Estate Medium - Medium Style, the
De Rustica Estate Collection: Frantoio - Medium Style, the
De Rustica Estate Intense Intense Style and the De Rustica Estate Collection: Coratina Intense Style.
The silver awards were earned by De Rustica Estate Collection: Arbequina - Delicate Style and the De Rustica Estate Delicate
- Delicate Style. A panel of local taste experts judge and give CTC certified oils the gold, silver or bronze stamp of taste excellence. The competition will only accept registrations from entrants with extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) produced in the current season exclusively. Entries must be 100% South African and made by South African producers registered with SA Olive. Despite having a very small harvest in 2020 and not competing in the 2020 SA Olive Awards, 2021 has delivered a record harvest and superb oils for De Rustica.
De Rustica focuses on blending perfection and creating only the best quality extra virgin olive oil that can compete with the very best from anywhere in the world. Unfortunately, De Rustica suffered the tragic loss of their general manager, Joop Steenkamp a week ago when he succumbed to Covid-19. Rob Still, owner of De Rustica, said: “These awards are dedicated to Joop Steenkamp, the De Rustica General Manager who died of Covid related illness earlier in the month. He made a great contribution to De Rustica and these SA Olive Gold awards are testament to his contribution”
