In His Father’s Footsteps Danielle Steel

People (South Africa) - - Between The Lines -

IN this new must-read from master novellist Danielle Steel we meet Jakob and Emmanuelle – two World War II concentration camp survivors. They move to New York, fall in love, get married and start a life together. That life isn’t an easy one, though. They’re at the bottom of the job market and work long, hard hours for very little pay. But through talent, faith, fortune, and relentless hard work Jakob makes something of himself, and shows his son Max that America is truly the land of opportunity. For his part Max grows up in a privileged life, and eventually goes on to start a family of his own. But through it all something seems amiss, and to find his place in the world he’ll have to walk in his father’s footsteps. This is a marvelous piece from Danielle Steel – a tale of courage and strength, and Steel does a brilliant job bonding the reader to her characters. It’s a more serious work than we’re used to seeing from the author, but she’s mastered the execution.
