Friendly match gives Lim Impalas the winning edge

- Herbert Rachuene

The Limpopo Impalas senior women’s team improved their batting, bowling and fielding skills during their friendly inter-squad match held at Polokwane cricket grounds on January 15.

The team used the friendly match to prepare for the upcoming Cricket South Africa (CSA) Senior Women’s league, which will commence on January 28. The Impalas will play against the Free State senior women’s team in their opening match at Mangaung oval and then travel to Kimberly to take on the Northern Cape in February. In March they will tackle Mpumalanga’s and KwaZulu-Natal’s senior women’s teams at their respective ovals.

Neo Sekokotla, head coach of the team, said the friendly match gave the technical team an opportunity to gauge the fitness level and readiness of the players.“We just came back from the holiday and in the practice match we wanted to check the level of their fitness and sharpen their bowling, fielding and batting skills. We are happy with their fitness levels and readiness and we look forward to the league.”

The team will rely on their star players, Charne van den Berg, Itumeleng Manyaga, Akani Mashimbyi, Tebogo Macheke and Kushi Mistry, who are all in the Cricket South Africa group. “All the players have

been working hard and preparing for the league matches, and the players who are in the national team’s experience will help us achieve our goal, which is to win the league.”
