Lillies thrash Mpumalanga

The Limpopo Lillies were full of energy after thrashing the Mpumalanga Rhinos by 144 runs during a 50 over match at the Polokwane Cricket Club on Saturday, February 5.

The Limpopo ladies team won the toss and elected to bat first. Thanks to stellar performanc­es with the bat by Kushi Mistry (56) Dimakatso Tsotetsi (49) and Koketso Manyaga (44*), the Lillies were 224/7 in their 50 overs.

Mistry was the top scorer for Limpopo with a 56 off 82 balls that included four fours. Dimakatso Tsotetsi was one run away from a half century before she was stumped by Michelle Schoeman off the bowling of Cynthia Naidoo.

The pick of Mpumalanga’s bowlers included Naidoo with three wickets in her 10 overs as well as Schoeman who took two wickets.

The Lillies’ economical bowling attack proved to be too strong for Mpumalanga who were bowled out for a mere 80 runs in 32.4 overs. Akani Mashimbyi was the pick of the bowlers as she took three wickets in seven overs, while Cherne van den Berg, Kushi Mistry, and Masingita Khoza each took two wickets.

The Rhinos’ top scorer was Kivashka Naidoo with 28 runs off 40 balls followed by Alicia Giles who scored 17 off 24 balls.
