Rotary brings Blessman to the podium

- Barry Viljoen

Members of the Rotary Club of Polokwane had a full programme for their weekly meeting at Our Home/Ons

Tuiste last Monday with a presentation by Dr Jim Blessman of Blessman International as the guest speaker.

Blessman International is the Rotary Club’s major partner in sourcing humanitarian aid from the United States of America and is also one of the club’s implementing agents for projects funded by Rotary International’s Global Fund.

Blessman said that his organisation had to adapt its focus to overcome the challenges which resulted from Covid-19. “It, however, presented new opportunities as well and we could escalate our feeding programme” Blessman said and explained that two years ago the feeding programme took care of 15 000 children and provided a nourishing meal three to five days per week to every child. “We plan to feed 100 000 children by the end of 2022,” Blessman added. He also runs a project at rural high schools to deal with alcohol and drug abuse called ‘Celebrate Recovery’.

Blessman added that his organisation completed a water project outside Mokopane and built Enviro toilets as part of the Rotary projects.

According to Blessman, visitors representing major donors from South Africa and abroad regularly visit the feeding hubs and other projects to see how their money is spent.
