We are a resilient nation indeed

- ELVIS MASOGA

True to his oratorical finesse, President Cyril Ramaphosa motivated the nation in his address to the nation recently.

It was the president’s occasion to deliver his State of The Nation Address (Sona) in the midst of national uncertainties.

Truthfully, I was captivated by the inspiration contained in the Sona.

It pulled me into the prisms of history and reminded me of the oratorical greatness of Winston Churchill. At the height of World War 2 in 1940, British Prime Minister Churchill inspired the world in their battle against Nazi’s Adolf Hitler.

Churchill implored, “We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France and elsewhere, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and rising strength in the air, we shall defend our island sland and planet....” The wartime statesman further charged: “We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills, we shall never surrender, and even if we surrender, which I do not even believe.... We will carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the new world with all its might and power, will step forth to the rescue and the liberation of humanity.” In times of agonising adversity and crippling hardships, a nation deserves highly inspirational and resilient leader. In spite of our harrowing levels of unemployment and socio-economic vicissitudes, we must never lose faith in ability to thrive and succeed.

In his address, Ramaphosa had put the presidency at the centre of national efforts to foster job creation. In his closing remarks, the president reckons: “I ask every South African to rally together in our fight against corruption, in our fight to create jobs, in our fight to achieve a more just and equal society. We have faced many crises in our past, and we have overcome them.”

As South Africans, we have demonstrated throughout history that we are a great resilient nation. We will soldier on and strive for greatness until victory is certain. elvismasoga123@gmail.com
