Capricorn district convener Fazel Marivate is excited to be one of the appointed umpires to officiate the upcoming Varsity Cup and Telkom netball league set to start on April 26.
Marivate expressed his excitement when he received a call to be a national umpire. In the almost six years that he has been with TUT, Marivate has learnt a lot from the head of TUT sport department, Dumisani Chauke and sports organiser Matimbha Maimela.
“I am very excited and I think it is a massive opportunity to showcase my talent at national level, where I am going to have the opportunity to work with people who have been doing it for a while.”
Marivate reflected on his varsity years at the University of Limpopo where he first joined a netball team in 2010 and from that moment he knew netball will always be part of his life. Besides being a netball coach, Marivate is also a teacher at Westenburg Secondary School.
He looks forward to the league as it will leave wonderful memories, he hopes it will inspire young girls and boys who are passionate about netball to come and unleash their potential.
“People must just be confident enough to take the opportunity and own it because netball is available to all.”
From a rural boy who joined a netball team in varsity to being a varsity netball team coach and now an umpire in the South African netball league, he is very confident he will learn a lot more. “This opportunity will not only be for my glory but also for God to enable me with the talent He has entrusted me with and not forgetting people who have been a part of my journey,” he added.
