Namibian wrestlers visit Ion Baciu club
Ion Baciu Wrestling Club assistant head coach, Roedie Roets says they have learnt valuable lessons from their counterparts at the After School Centre Wrestling Club from Namibia.
A total of 16 wrestlers from the Namibian club visited Polokwane two weeks ago to make use of their facilities in preparation for the African Wrestling Championship to be held in Morocco later this year.
Roets said they were excited to have shared the wrestling ring with the Namibian wrestlers.
“We have never hosted any wrestling team from outside the province at the club. It was an opportunity to learn from them. They are more skilled in the Greco Roman style which was marvelled by our wrestlers. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to learn more about their techniques, different wrestling methods and dynamics. We want to thank them for choosing us and we wish them all the best in the championships.”
After School Centre coach Luis Forcelledo Paz said they are grateful to Ion Baciu Wrestling Club for allowing them to make use of their facilities.
“We felt welcome. They have good facilities which will help us to achieve our goals at the championships. We have a lot of respect for the coach for developing talent and ensuring that there are more wrestlers at the club. The level of wrestling at the club is of a high standard.”
Romio Goliath, one of the Namibian wrestlers, said he was happy to train with wrestlers from the Polokwane club. “They are more aggressive, their freestyle is on a different level and their technique is also top level. We learned a lot from them, we felt at home and we hope that we can make them proud at the championships.”
