Women’s organisation continues to grow
The South African Women in Construction & Built Environment (SAWIC&BE) organisation was founded in 1997 to empower women in the construction industry.
Now, 25 years later, they still continue to grow to new heights. The organisation ensures there is the necessary support for females in this male-dominated sector, and held its elective conference a few weeks ago.
During the conference the new provincial leadership, which will be in office for the next three years, was elected.
Newly elected chairperson Florence Rangata said it is in an honour to be elected into office and to assume the role will allow her to advocate for the core vision and mission of the organisation.
“SAWIC&BE is here to promote and support the advancement of women and youth in the construction industry through advocacy, skills development and capacity growth.
“We find this necessary in order to level out the playing field in this sector. Construction has been a male-dominated field for a long time and in order to enhance the entrepreneurial skills of our members, we need to offer support to each other,” she said.
The provincial executive said by forming part of the organisation, women get an opportunity to learn from others, understand

“We offer skills development and training to new entrants in the organisation. We target entrepreneurs, professionals and young women in TVET colleges and universities.
“We are affiliated to several government entities and regulatory authorities in construction,” she said.
The entities include the Department Economic development, Department of Public works, National Home Builders Registration Council, Construction Industry Development Board and the Limpopo United Business Forum.
SAWIC&BE Limpopo Chapter encourages all women and youth, including students in the sector, to contact the provincial secretary Lesego Tshivhula on 082 333 7158 for any enquiries or to join the organisation.
