Easter donation drive thanks to city’s generous bikers

- Anne Mametja

The Roadhogs Pietersburg Motorcycle Club in collaboration with other biker clubs in and outside Limpopo hosted an Easter egg and SPCA donation run on April 23.

The donation spree was led by the president of Roadhogs Pietersburg Motorcycle Club and the chairperson of the Limpopo Biker Council, Ronald Leach. Bikers gathered at a Penina Park petrol station and made their way to the SPCA, where they donated various kinds of cat and dog food to the shelter that will last them for several months.

“We like to refer to the animals as the friendly four-legged furry children who we love dearly,” Leach said.

After the bikers donated to the SPCA, they headed to several more shelters such as Ivypark Shelter, Eeufeeshuis, Polokwane Naskool, Leeukuil Shelter, Pick n Pay Cycad Centre, Nasorg Centre, Ladanna Shelters, as well as Spar Platinum Park to donate more goods in celebration of Easter month.

“A huge thank you to everyone’s support and to those who were part of the donation run. This donation run could not have been possible or a success had it not been for all of you guys,” Leach said.

The Limpopo Biker Council secretary, Wilma Prinsloo, confirmed the donation was a success and appreciates everyone’s effort. “If you have more than you need, build a longer table, not a higher fence,” she said.

While the bikers visited the Polokwane Nasorg Centre, the kids sang yes Jesus loves me in beautiful harmonies. Ivypark Shelter management could not thank the bikers enough for all their endless support.

“The donations got us very emotional because the residents in the shelters have so little in life, yet they are still so appreciative and positive about life.

Each one of them is an inspiration and a real role model to us,” Leach added.

The Roadhogs Pietersburg Motorcycle Club would also like to thank all the individuals and businesses who opened their hearts and donated towards the shelters. The bikers handed out some of the remaining Easter eggs at Cycad Centre.

“Pick n Pay management was very friendly and allowed us to bless some of their customers as they exited the store,” Leach concluded.
