Kruinies bag win against Seshego
Kruinies Rugby Club’s second team played host to Seshego Rugby Club’s first team on April 28.
The two sides faced each other in a division three Boet Fick league match and both teams displayed good defensive tactics in the first half.
The visitors stuck to their guns at the start of the match and made it difficult for the men in blue and white to score points.
The halftime score was 10-3 in Kruinies’ favour.
Kruinies, however, capitalised on Seshego’s lack of experience and match fitness in the second half as they secured a dominating 32-11 victory.
Prop Stefan Schoeman scored one of Kruinies’ six tries, while his brother Heinrich scored twice.
The hosts’ other tries were scored by replacement scrumhalf Jan-Hendrick Weyer and winger Mauritz Pretorius, who crossed the white wash twice. Outside centre Keeve Pretorius managed to convert one of the tries.
Seshego’s flyhalf, Emmanuel Laka, slotted two penalties for his side while eight-man David Thompson scored their only try.
Seshego coach Dineo Semenya said his team showed good spirit and stuck to their structure. “I am happy with the manner in which my team implemented our strategies and our standard of play. Compared to * our previous match, there was a big improvement in terms of our kicking, and it shows that we are on the right track towards our first win.”
Kruinies team manager Andre Hay told Polokwane Observer the game was pleasant to watch. “Both teams showed great strengths. I think there is always room for improvement and hopefully we will perform well in this year’s league. Overall, this game was nice to watch.”
