- Herbert Rachuene

Limpopo Province Sport Karate-Kickboxing Academy (LPSKKA), were part of the first Limpopo Martial Art Open Championship Tournament that took place at PEPPS on April 23.

A total of 26 kickboxers managed to win 61 medals altogether, of which 27 medals were gold, 19 silver and 15 bronze. According to club sensei Nico Myburgh, both the beginner and advanced students performed above average.

“The karate and kickboxing format is completely different and most of the kickboxers experienced some difficulties when it came to contact, which resulted in a very good learning experience for all students. As part of LPSKKA we thank all the clubs and participants who enjoyed the day with us.We also thank Kancho Alex Tebbutt and Shihan Stanley de Cruz from Germiston for their support. We congratulate sensei Pieter Bronkhorst and his team on a very successful first tournament,” Myburgh said.

He added plans are well underway to host the South African Mixed Martial

Arts Championship in the city in October and urged parents to get their children involved in martial arts. “We plan to invite various clubs and whoever is in the city to participate in the championship. Martial arts teaches children discipline, respect and help them to improve in their academic work and sustain their self-image.”
