LWA honour female excellency and heritage

- Anne Mametja

The annual Limpopo Women Awards (LWA) was launched at Park Inn by Radisson Polokwane on April 21.

LWA officially embarked on its inaugural programme to honour female excellency and heritage in Limpopo with a glittering event where Kulie Hobyane, from SABC Munghana Lonene FM who was the master of ceremonies, welcomed the guests and made announcements about the programme on the day. A few iconic women made their way to the podium to give words of encouragement to their fellow businesswomen. Capricorn District Municipality Mayor Mmamedupi Teffo, as the first woman to occupy the mayoral position, encouraged women to enter for the LWA awards.

LWA founder Rose Mantsho explained the aim of the awards is to commemorate Limpopo women who continue to make a difference in society and various industries. “The national state of disaster limited mass gatherings and Limpopo women could not be honoured for their contributions to society. In a bid to remedy this shortfall, LWA will identify women who achieved excellency from 2020 to date and honour them for the strides and impact they have made in their respective fields,” she said.
