Home ground advantage sees 28-7 win for Noordelikes over UNILIM
The third team of Noordelikes Rugby Club beat the first team of the University of Limpopo (UL) 28-7 in a gruelling match of the Boet Fick league on Saturday.
The two sides compete in the third division of the competition and faced each other at Noordelikes’ rugby field in search of log points.
Noordelikes, led by their zealous coach, Lieb Coetzer, scored their first try in the opening minutes of the first half when Leon Jordan’s pass found Jan Fourie who beat UL’s defence to cross the line.
Buoyed by their home ground advantage and the support from their fans, Noordelikes showed class in the last 10 minutes of the first half.
Rotwandwa Rapholo passed the ball to Tiaan Redman who outpaced his opponents to score another try for his team.
Sewel de Costa also put his name on the score sheet when he scored a try for Noordelikes in the second half of the match to extend their lead.
Coetzer attributed their feat to proper planning and sheer determination by the players. “We played according to our strategy which included a strong defence and good attack. The guys were determined and eager to win the match. The UL team attacked throughout the match but they could not break through our defence. It was a good win and credit should go to all the players.” He added that they will continue with their winning streak against Predators Rugby Club from Phalaborwa who they face on May 21. “We have never played them before and we anticipate a tough match, but we can assure everyone that we will come back home with a good result.”
