Hundreds take on the cross country route

Cross country is a discipline­d sport and helps to build character and confidence.

Limpopo Athletics’ cross country event was a huge success on May 14.

Young and old athletes exchanged paces and tested their endurance in the 2km race which was held at Hoërskool Pietersbur­g.

According to the organiser, Derick Botha, the event was aimed to assist the athletes improve their fitness levels as well as help with their preparatio­ns for their next sport events.

“Cross country is a discipline­d sport and helps in building character and confidence. Most of them started with their sports activities and we feel that this event will help them prepare for upcoming events.”

Some of the athletes who participat­ed are local netball, tennis, rugby and soccer players from various clubs in the city.

Botha thanked the athletes for honouring the invitation. “We had 771 athletes on the day which in itself was a massive success. We started as early as 05:00 and people came out in their numbers to make the event a success.”
