Karatekas brag with new belts

- Hetrbert Rachuene

Karatekas from Kimura Shukokai Karate in Polokwane, under the guidance of sensei Marcia van Niekerk, participated in a grading ceremony in Gauteng on May 28.

Two of the karatekas, Harry Marais and Duan le Roux, were bestowed with brown belts at the event.

Van Niekerk said she was happy with the strides made by their karatekas. “They moved up from the purple belt to brown, which is a good achievement for them. They have worked hard and we hope they will continue to put in their best efforts.”

The club also had a grading ceremony on May 7 in Polokwane where karatekas from the club graded to white, yellow and blue belts.

In order to be graded, the karatekas had to showcase their talent in modern karate techniques and katas. “They competed against other karatekas from various clubs in various areas and they did well. We will have another grading event towards the end of the year,” she concluded.
