Vodacom Limpopo to improve connectivity in the province

- Anne Mametja

In a media briefing at the Vodacom Limpopo Region last Wednesday, the network reiterated their aim to improve connectivity in the province.

The panel consisted of managing executive for Vodacom Limpopo region, Ridwaan Soomra, executive head of consumer business unit, Lelethu Nkula, executive head of operations, Molefe Mahlangu, and executive head of Vodacom business, Kugan Soobraman. Soomra announced Vodacom will spend R300m in an effort to accelerate connectivity in the province.

“We’re excited about our network investment for Limpopo this financial year, as we aim for all our customers to benefit from a quality network experience, especially in the rural areas” Soomra said.

He added Vodacom will expand its connectivity as part of their commitment to build an inclusive digital future and assist with socio-economic growth in the province. He explained the expansion of broadband coverage will include the construction of new towers in deep rural areas to enhance transmission.

“The investment will support the region’s data traffic growth. The region now has more than 1 557 network sites of which 97% provide 3G and 92% provide 4G, which is a 10.8% increase in broadband coverage every year,” Soomra concluded.

“We would like to prioritise digital inclusion by decreasing the cost to communicate through affordable smartphones, data and voice offers. With these efforts, the region now has the third highest device count in the country,” Nkula added.

She added Vodacom wants to empower customers for a brighter tomorrow.

“Our zero-rated ConnectU platform provides access to life-changing opportunities, including employment, education and health services, at no data cost,” she said.
