Police looking for leads

- Koketšo Sekhwela

By Tuesday morning, the police still had no leads about who was responsible for the murder of a man in Ladanna in the early hours of Saturday.

According to police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba, the Westenburg police are seeking the community’s assistance in identifying the four occupants in a white Mercedez-Benz in Witklip Street, who fired several gunshots and drove off, leaving their victim in a pool of blood at around 02:15.

Ledwaba also said the identity of the victim will be made known in due course.

In an unrelated incident, police say they have little to go on following a hit-and-run incident along the Mogwadi (Dendron) road just off Witklip.

Four occupants in a white Mercedez-Benz in Witklip Street, fired serveral gunshots and drove off.

This, despite debris from a vehicle having been found on the scene on March 26, which was not sufficient evidence in the matter, they said.

While the murder case has been put on hold until new leads arise, the Westenburg police confirmed that they followed the trail of the vehicle wreckage in the hit-and-run, which led them to a property in Mahlasedi Park near Emdor.

The homeowner, who they confirmed is not the owner of the vehicle, could however not assist as the surveillance equipment on the property had not been working for months.

From the evidence collected, the police did confirm that the vehicle driven was a VW. The victim in this case suffered severe head and leg injuries, and died on the scene, the municipality’s Kgaugelo Mphago confirmed.
