-

Tennis enthusiasts had a weekend on the edge of their seats this weekend as SRE Sports hosted the second TSA Baobab Mini Tournament at the Polokwane Tennis Club, attracting some of the best young tennis talent currently on the national circuit.

The tournament was played from Friday and Saturday, and had a tremendous turnout.

According to tournament director Ernest Faver, a sizeable number of tennis players entered for this tournament, which saw the 16 refurbished courts at the club put to its best use.

“The Polokwane Tennis Club boasts worldclass facilities and it is a pleasure enjoying the game here. We are grateful towards the Polokwane Municipality for making the club available for the tournament. We have a longstanding relationship with the municipality, and our endeavours are always well supported by the Department of Sport as well as the municipality, for which we are grateful.”

Local players who once again showed what the city has to offer included young tennis star Wendy Modiba (u/12) who won the girls division in her age group, with Luna Rodriguez, Leago Marokane and Miani Vosloo beaming tennis players in the making in the u/16 division. Blake Bekker also had a great round in the boys u/16 division.

In the men’s section, Pasela Motsamai lost to Nicolai Paraian in a nail-biting final with 3-6, 7-6(2) and 12-10.

The next TSA Baobab Mini Tournament will be held at the same venue later in the year.
