Kickboxing club welcomes new senseis

- Anne Mametja

I fell in love with kickboxing when I was around five years old. I’ve grown into the club and became part of the family.

Kickboxers from the Limpopo Province Sport Karate-Kickboxing Academy (LPSKKA), Christo Nortman and Leandri Peyper both earned the title of sensei recently.

Peyper started practising kickboxing with LPSKKA in 2016 when the club opened.

She told Polokwane Observer that the sport teaches a person self-discipline, self-control and how to defend yourself, especially as a woman.

“What I love about this club is the way we can all stand together as a team and support each other as a team,” she said.

Being newly appointed as a sensei, Peyper added that it’s a special achievement to have reached and to be given the opportunity to be able to teach others what she has learned.

“I fell in love with kickboxing when I was around five years old. I’ve grown into the club and became part of the family. It’s so much fun to learn every day,” she said.

“I appreciate our coaches and senseis for all the time they put in and all the love they have shown throughout the years, never giving up on me and the club.

“They are just stunning people and so proud to call them family,” Peyper said.

Christo Nortman also started practising kickboxing when the club opened in 2016 and said everyone in the club is very supportive.

“I love kickboxing because it’s the perfect form of cardio. We’re constantly pushing ourselves, working with our coaches to motivate us throughout our sessions.”

He added that it’s an honour to be appointed as a sensei as it will motivate

other students to work even harder.

“I’m grateful for my coaches and senseis for this opportunity and for getting me to where I am today, through kickboxing,” Nortman said.

“Congratulations to both of our new senseis. They’ve earned these positions and titles indeed with such passion and hard work through the years,” sensei Nico Myburgh (Sr) said.
