TheRanchhosts2nd SANESA qualifier

- Miranda Chauke

The second Sanesa Limpopo Core League qualifier was held at The Ranch Equestrian Centre over the weekend, with 280 entrants taking part in disciplines including dressage, show jumping, equitation and showing.

In showjumping, judges award points or penalties and riders ride against a set time.

“For dressage, showing and equitation, each discipline has its own set of rules and criteria and riders have to know the completion requirements. They also get prescribed tests to ride, on which they will be judged. Highly qualified judges then judge these riders according to national standards,” explained Retha van der Merwe, Sanesa Limpopo chairperson.

The next Core League qualifier will be held on May 24-26 at The Ranch Equestrian Centre.

The centre will host an eventing graded show on the

May 18 and 19, which will be a Sanesa eventing qualifier with riders from North West, Gauteng and Limpopo. The Sanesa nationals will be held at the end of September at KPC in Kyalami where all the provinces bring their best riders to compete at national level.

In order to be eligible for national team selections, riders have to compete in three out of the four qualifiers.

Van der Merwe added that as Sanesa, they are proud of each rider who competes, from the youngest beginner to the highest level that they offer.

“Riders bring their hearts into the arena and it is our privilege * to host a qualifier to give them the opportunities to ride. We have parents and instructors that put a lot of hours and effort into getting their children ready for a show, and we thank them. Our venue, The Ranch Equestrian Centre, always goes out of their way and sponsors like Maya Couture and The Flying Pig who make our qualifiers more amazing. We were fortunate to have our Sanesa national chairperson, Alta Olivier, at the qualifier this weekend and we were proud to show her all we have to offer in Limpopo,” she said.

Sanesa offers very diverse disciplines, and anyone who wants to get more information of what they offer as a school sport and how they can get involved, can contact Retha van der Merwe on limpopo@sanesa.co.za.
