like Kandena’s bike in Akira, Batman’s Batcycle or Batpod and the Light Cycles from Tron seem to be the inspirations for an ultrafuturistic bike concept from BMW. Still, the concept – part of what’s called Motorrad Vision Next 100 – maintains quintessential BMW styling cues highlighted in the company’s i3 and i8 E- cars.

According to BMW, Vision Next 100 embodies biking in a connected world; an analogue experience in a digital age. Motorcycling is, as the company says, about escaping from the everyday: the moment you straddle your bike, you are absolutely free.

Designed with the future of energy in mind, like its three Vision Next 100 counterparts this concept will produce no emissions. It will join the world of connected vehicles with intelligent systems that collate data to suggest optimal riding lines, banking angles and will even warn the rider about upcoming hazards. These messages will appear in the lower third of the field of view, which is represented by an upside-down triangle. BMW says the display mimics that of an aeroplane cockpit, which shows the plane’s banking and ideal lines.

“If the bike’s current position does not match what is suggested, the rider can correct it as necessary. If he or she responds too late or not at all, the bike will correct itself. The Digital Companion’s advice not only helps novices to learn more about what they and their bikes can do, it also supports experienced riders by allowing them to challenge themselves and continuously improve their skills,” the company says.
