The 27 KV drone motor is hooked to an RC transmitter like the kind you’d use to fly drones. I control it by remote from the deck of the boat.
B/ UNIVERSAL JOINT
It’s a little overkill but this came from a tractor. This allows me to go a couple degrees off axis without messing up the system.
C/ THRUST BEARING AND SUPPORT BLOCK
The block is made of thin laminations of plywood held together by epoxy. It’s as strong as aluminium.
D/ TRANSMISSION COUPLER
I kept this from the original setup. If it could isolate the vibration of the old engine, the new motor is no problem.
E/ STUFFING BOX
It’s original to the boat, but leaked and was covered in rust. Once I got it open, I tightened the rope around the prop to keep water out.
Original. It uses a sacrificial anode. As long as I keep that up, it should last a very long time. Eventually I’ll replace it with one with steeper pitch.
G/ RUDDER Came with the boat. Works great.
