Beautiful by nature, but sometimes in need of refurbishment, an antique chair can be a rewarding project.

THE CHAIRS around our dining-room table are an eclectic bunch, collected over the years as, and when, finances and opportunity allowed. Some are probably approaching 100 years old and are quite rickety. One even collapsed a while back, dumping a good friend on to her bum, which prompted me to get on with some necessary repairs in my workshop.
