WORX SIDEKICK

The tool people at WORX have come up with a new worktable to make any home workshop feel like a professional environment. The new Sidekick table is extremely sturdy, but remains lightweight at the same time. It’s designed to be versatile and, with its collapsible tabletop, is easily portable. It can handle up to 136 kg, and comes with metal legs that won’t slip or sink into soft ground. The Sidekick has two link locks and four clamp dogs included in the box. The latter snap into the worktable to give it added support when you’re working with uncommon shapes. The link locks help to connect multiple tables together and keep the Sidekick closed when it’s not in use. RRP R1 953 vermontsales.co.za

PLEGIUM SMART PEPPER SPRAY

Sadly, South Africa has one of the highest crime rates in the world and, over the past two years, this stat has only been worsened by the spotlight on gender-based violence. Here at POPULAR MECHANICS, we take safety seriously, which is why we were relieved to get our hands on this Smart Pepper Spray. The compact device uses smart technology to help you protect yourself from an attack and alert your loved ones. The tiny crime fighter is equipped with a three-metre multi-shot pepper spray and three bright

LED flashing lights, which have a 19 Hz strobe component proven to induce a disorientating effect on the human brain. The unit will also sound two alarms, a loud 130 dB siren as well as the sound of a woman screaming. But the most impressive feature is the Plegium app, which dispatches a message with your exact location and calls whomever you have set as your emergency contacts on your phone. If you’re curious to make sure it works, there’s a test button that can be used without firing the pepper spray.
